Biography

Jo Colbert Stanley honed her remarkable dispute resolution skills over the course of more than 20 years practicing law, along with specialized training and advanced ADR education. With a focus on maritime law, insurance, and commercial litigation, Stanley brings her background in anti-discrimination, diversity and inclusion to aid in the resolution of a wide range of disputes.

At her firm in Fort Lauderdale (Stanley Legal Services LLC), Stanley offers her talents as an independent arbitrator, mediator, and legal consultant. She is a published author and sought-after presenter who lends her expertise to companies and organizations worldwide. Stanley also regularly trains attorneys and other professionals by providing continuing education seminars on topics including ADR, maritime and admiralty, insurance, and employment law.

A highly honored academic and scholar, Stanley received her juris doctorate from Widener Law Commonwealth and her bachelor’s degree from Penn State University. She received an LL.M. in ADR from Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Shepard Broad College of Law and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Conflict Analysis & Resolution at NSU’s Halmos College of Arts & Sciences.

Stanley is an active board member of several Bar associations and is the current Chair-Elect of the Federal Bar Association’s Dispute Resolution section. She was recently awarded membership in The Fellows of the American Bar Foundation and is also a past Fellow of the American Bar Association’s Dispute Resolution Section.
