Rob Shives is an international and domestic commercial arbitrator and mediator with over 35 years of major law firm and in-house expertise in corporate/commercial transactions and litigation/arbitration practice. Rob also serves as General Counsel to Shinko Electric America, Inc., the Silicon Valley-based packaging and semiconductor subsidiary of Shinko Electric Ltd which is headquartered in Nagano, Japan.
During his more than 35 years with major law firms in New York, Philadelphia and Los Angeles and with international companies like the AT&T and Fujitsu, Rob participated, handled, managed and resolved hundreds of litigated and arbitrated disputes both domestically (in over a dozen US jurisdictions) and internationally (in APAC, UK, Europe, Canada & Mexico).
Rob has served as a member of the Board of Directors and in executive leadership positions, including Chapter President of the largest chapter of the world’s largest in-house lawyer organization, the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC). Under his leadership as President, ACC’s San Francisco Chapter was awarded the Outstanding Corporation of the Year from the Bar Association of San Francisco’s Volunteer Lawyers Services Program for its commitment to public service to the community and he was awarded the Bar Association of San Francisco’s Award of Merit, the organization’s highest honor. He was also honored with BASF’s Individual Diversity Award for his outstanding commitment to diversity in the legal profession.
Rob has trained with Nevada’s Court Annexed Arbitration Program; attended various ICDR, International Commercial Court (ICC) arbitration programs and has spoken on panels with the ICDR in New York & San Francisco and with ACC throughout the country. He has subject matter expertise in all manners of domestic and multinational technology (software, hardware and IP transfers) transactions, general commercial contracts, as well as employee relations and employee-employer-related disputes.
