Biography

Samuel E. McCargo draws on more than 35 years of legal experience as a commercial litigator and in his practice as an arbitrator and mediator.

He arbitrates and mediates commercial, complex contract, employment, labor, and consumer and community disputes. His ADR experience also includes past roles as ad hoc hearing officer for the Michigan Department of Public Health and the Michigan Department of Civil Service. 

McCargo has also been the chief negotiator for collective bargaining agreements covering a wide array of industries and unions. He has experience in National Labor Relations Board, Michigan Employment Relations Commission and Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency proceedings. 

In addition to his ADR experience, McCargo has litigated wrongful discharge, sex and race discrimination and harassment, employee insurance and benefits, workers compensation, unfair labor practices charges, duty of fair representation, and corporate restructuring and staff reduction cases. 

He frequently leads trainings and lectures on arbitration, mediation, sexual harassment, new issues in discrimination, merit systems, state and federal civil service, arbitration costs and preparation, and workplace diversity management. 

McCargo and his wife, Mattie, have three adult children. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf, reading and traveling.
